In the second grade writing worksheets you will find lessons covering a wide range of writing topics. One of the biggest writing concepts for this age group is cursive writing.
I have heard some parents say that their schools have done away with cursive writing. While that may be true, many are still using it in the classroom. I feel it is an important part of a writing program and have included many worksheets on this subject.
You will also find other writing concepts presented such as various essay forms (informative, narrative, etc...), drafting and revising, sentence structure, punctuation, and more.
If you're going to be a good writer, you have to be a good speller as well. Be sure to see the worksheets on Second Grade spelling which include important phonics lessons like letter blends and sorting.
I'll start this section off with cursive handwriting activities. Our son has always struggled with his writing, but when he began learning cursive in the second grade, it improved.
Perhaps he had picked up some bad printing habits and learning a whole new way of writing corrected that a bit. I'm not sure. All I know is that his cursive is so much better than his printing.
So, naturally, I made a lot of cursive activity sheets for him. To print them, simply click on the links below and then click on the worksheet you'd like to print.
